Bermweb Online Shopping Guide

I've been doing a lot of online shopping lately, especially for computer parts. When I first started, I had no idea where to start. I didn't know what places were good to shop at and how reliable some sites were. Through the coarse of buying computer components and stuff online, I've come up with these basic priciples:

  • 1. It should be cheaper for me to by a specific component online than in a store.
    • - The company doesn't have to pay an employee to help me or for a store front so the cost of the merchandise should be lower then if I went to a store.
  • 2. There site should be up to date
    • - To me there is no excuse for not haveing a product they advertise. If they want an online shop, they beter be willing to maintain it.
  • 3. They should have quick customer responce time
    • - This is a store, all the basic customer service rules should apply

A great resource on the web for finding computer components is cnet. Most of the places I shoped at were listed here:

    http://www.shopper.com/
    And one final note:

    Don't Go to Yahoo Shopping

All I've ever had is problems with the retailers on yahoo shopping. I've had 3 different stores advertise one thing, then claim that they don't have it in stock but that they could sell me something else. This is called the bait and switch and is illeagl from what I understand.

Here's a list of places I would reconmend:

5 spiders is a great place to shop, highly recomended
4 spiders: I would shop here again, got my stuff fast with no problems
3 spiders: If they had a really good special, I would buy stuff from them agian
2 spiders: probably wont shop here again
1 spider: deffinatly will not shop here again

www.amazon.comGreat place to by Books and Movies! They got their act together
www.buy.comBought all kinds of computer parts from them. I got a Yamaha CDR and some CDROMS. Never had a problem and talk about fast customer support, they're great
www.comp-u-plus.comGot a Segate Hard Drive and a Diamond Viper Card. No problems at all and quick delivery.
www.2cooltek.comCool little shop that specializes in CPU fans. Got a great fan at a good price with speedy service. Cool place to get a fan so you can buy those cheap P3 OEM chips
www.directon.comOrdered my Motherboard from these guys. No problems, no complaints, fast service.
www.megamicro.comGot a cpu from these guys. The CPU I got died fast however, but they were great at replaceing it. It was even an OEM cpu and at most places your SOL, although it did take a while for them to get another in stock.
www.accessmicro.comGot a good deal on Ram, not a great deal, but I didn't have to drive 50 miles to get to the shop that has Ram for sell near here. Took a few days to get here also.
www.egghead.comNever did get my spark card, it was on back oreder for 3 months and the support people didn't know jack! However, I've bought games and stuff from them so maybe that's about all their good for.
PC fusion on yahooThese guys took a week to tell me that they didn't have my CDR for $200 in but I could buy on that they had for $400. Sounds like a con to me. Believe me, you don't need a link to them.
Any store on Yahoo shoppingDon't trust any store on yahoo shopping. These are basically mom and pop stores that pay yahoo to set up a web site. Yahoo doesn't seem to care if the store has what they advertise. Go to cnet instead.

There were a couple of other places also, but they didn't put their web address on there invoice and I didn't feel like searching all over for them. Oh well.
